ASUSS Congratulates New PENGASSAN Leadership, Commends Festus Osifo’s Two-Term Tenure

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), following the association’s national elections held on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

In a press statement dated August 24, 2026, the National Executive Council (NEC) and entire membership of ASUSS extended their congratulations to the new PENGASSAN leadership on behalf of secondary school teachers across Nigeria.

ASUSS particularly congratulated Comrade Bosun Olabiyi Agoro on his election as the new President of PENGASSAN.

The teachers’ union described Agoro’s emergence at what it considers a critical period for the trade union movement as a reflection of the confidence placed in him by workers and comrades within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

According to ASUSS, the new PENGASSAN president brings considerable experience and a demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare to the position, expressing confidence that his leadership will further strengthen the association.

ASUSS Congratulates Other Newly Elected Officers

The union also congratulated other members elected to serve alongside the new PENGASSAN president.

They include Comrade Dominic Abang, who was elected as the Industrial Relations Officer (IRO), and Comrade Amaoge Chukwudi, who emerged as the new National Treasurer.

ASUSS also congratulated Comrade Engr. Ada Dr Mbanaso on her re-election as Chairperson of the PENGASSAN Women’s Commission.

The union described the individual victories of the newly elected officers as victories for the broader labour movement, commending their dedication and commitment to service.

Tribute to Festus Osifo

While welcoming the new leadership, ASUSS also paid tribute to Comrade Festus Osifo, who has completed his two-term tenure as President of PENGASSAN.

The secondary school teachers’ union described Osifo’s tenure as impactful, saying he led the association with courage, clarity and uncommon commitment to protecting members’ jobs and welfare, as well as promoting stability within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

ASUSS further highlighted what it described as Osifo’s legacy of institutionalising a rancour-free leadership transition within PENGASSAN.

According to the union, this approach to leadership succession will remain a reference point in trade union administration in Nigeria.

ASUSS wished Osifo greater heights as he continues his service as President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and contributes to the broader labour movement.

ASUSS Seeks Stronger Collaboration with PENGASSAN

The union said it looks forward to deepening its bond of solidarity and collaboration with PENGASSAN under the leadership of Comrade Agoro.

It said such collaboration would contribute to the advancement of workers’ rights, quality education and national development.

ASUSS concluded by extending its congratulations to the entire new PENGASSAN National Central Working Committee.
