THE COMMUNIQUE OF ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS (ASUSS) NCWC MEETING HELD ON FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER, 2020 AT GREEN MINDS HOTELS, UTAKO DISTRICT, ABUJA.
The National Central Working Committee(NCWC) in session resolved as follow;
That ASUSS members across the Nation are eternally gratefully, inspired and motivated in building this country and its future leaders through our unalloyed contributions, commitment, and support for quality education.
That through ASUSS the building of professional and standardized secondary education is achievable.
The Union appreciates the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for the incentives announced during the 2020 Teachers Day for teachers across the country.
ASUSS considers the gesture as a sincere move to better the lots of teachers and motivate them, as the Union adjudges the initiative as the best approach ever by any government, hoping that if faithfully implemented by the government it will transform the social perception of teaching in Nigeria forever.
It is also resolved that the Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu be commended for the steps taken so far, in getting the presidential pronouncements implemented.
The Minister is however reminded of extending the same gesture to ensuring the functionality of the Secondary Schools Education Commission in the interest of effective supervision of secondary education as the practice across other levels of Education.
That all State chapters should develop a mutual working relationship with their State Ministry of Education, standing on the existing understanding, support, and cooperation from Teachers of Secondary Schools across the country.
ASUSS vehemently frowns at the recent hike in petroleum products which was unilaterally done by the government without due consultation with the leadership of organized labour and without even being mindful of the adverse effects of recent “End SARS” protests on the lives and economy of citizens.
ASUSS’s leadership calls on all members to remain steadfast and continue to be inspired by prayers and the struggle, as we are determined to continue utilizing all available constitutional means to actualize the Union’s goals.
